Police: Why we removed Meranda’s security details

Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has received a new copy of her security information.

Tension in the race for speaker of the Lagos Assembly increased after Meranda’s security forces were removed on Thursday morning.

However, Moshood Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, gave a briefing hours after the action and blamed the pullout on a personnel audit.

The commissioner stated on Thursday night that the audit of the police officers assigned to Hon. Mojisola Meranda was over, and that the officers from the Lagos State Police Command had been restored to her for her safety.

It’s important to note that the ongoing police personnel audit has been going on for a few days, and well-known figures have been following the procedure.

The commissioner informed the audience, “Once again, the exercise is not aimed or targeted at any individuals.”

After Mudashiru Obasa was accused of improper behavior, Meranda from Apapa took over as the assembly’s speaker.

On Thursday, however, the fired Obasa asserted that Meranda, his successor, had resigned as parliament leader.

Following the return of the troubled Obasa, some Assembly members have criticized the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.

The MPs referred to Obasa’s comeback as an embarrassment and a sham that needs to end.
