The Police Service Commission has made arrangements to deploy staff monitors for the upcoming Governorship elections on November 11th in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. These staff monitors will be stationed in every Senatorial district in the three states and have been given the responsibility to closely observe the conduct of policemen on election duty.
In a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head Press and Public Relations on Tuesday in Abuja. According to the statement, the Commission is determined to hold these police officers accountable for their actions or inactions throughout the election period and will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary measures against any officer found to be negligent in their election duties.
Dr. Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Commission and retired Inspector General of Police, commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, for providing the necessary support to ensure proper policing of both the voters and election materials. Dr. Arase believes that this support should serve as motivation for the police to ensure free and fair elections.
Dr. Arase emphasized that the officers should reciprocate this support from the Inspector General of Police by conducting themselves with utmost integrity before, during, and after the elections. He stressed that the officers on election duty must adhere to established laws and guidelines, as their actions will significantly impact the success or failure of the election. He also warned that any misconduct during the elections will have appropriate consequences.
Dr. Arase extended his prayers for safe travels to all staff monitors who are embarking on this national assignment.
