The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away in Lagos following a brief illness.

In a statement released by the PSC’s Press and Public Relations Unit, DIG Argungu described the late Army Chief as a courageous and dedicated officer, whose contributions played a pivotal role in the nation’s ongoing battle against insurgency, banditry, and terrorism. He commended General Lagbaja for his unwavering support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to restore peace and security to Nigeria.

DIG Argungu conveyed his heartfelt condolences to President Buhari, the Nigerian Army, and the family of the late General, offering prayers for the repose of his soul. “General Lagbaja left indelible footprints on the sands of the nation’s security architecture,” he said, acknowledging the late officer’s legacy in strengthening Nigeria’s defense against internal and external threats.

The PSC Chairman also prayed for comfort for the bereaved family and called on the successor, General Olufemi Oluyede, to be granted wisdom and fortitude to build on the solid foundation laid by General Lagbaja.

The late General Lagbaja’s death has left a significant void in Nigeria’s military leadership, but his legacy in securing the country’s future will continue to be remembered.
