Lagos, September 25, 2024 — Pernod Ricard Nigeria, part of the global Pernod Ricard Group, marked this year’s World Clean-up Day under the theme “Make Room For Life” in partnership with Let’s Do It Nigeria, the official representative for World Clean-up Day in the country.
World Clean-up Day is a global initiative aimed at addressing waste management challenges and promoting sustainable practices. In 2023, the event saw over 26,000 volunteers collecting more than 2,800 tons of waste across 28 states in Nigeria, in collaboration with Let’s Do It Nigeria.
This year, Pernod Ricard Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through various initiatives aligned with its 2030 Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap. The company’s efforts focus on the Circular Making pillar, which includes reducing waste, eliminating single-use plastics, and promoting sustainable packaging.
Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s Managing Director, Michael Ehindero, emphasized the importance of resource conservation and sustainable practices: “We share a world of finite resources, and it is crucial to minimize waste at every step. At Pernod Ricard, we strive to optimize our processes to reduce environmental impact while creating positive experiences for our consumers.”
The company has already planted over 6,000 trees across Nigeria and has taken steps to reduce its environmental footprint by eliminating single-use plastics and adopting reusable and recyclable packaging. Key brands such as Jameson Irish Whisky, Chivas Regal, and Imperial Blue Whisky are now being sold without single bottle cartons to reduce waste.
Ehindero encouraged everyone to participate in World Clean-up Day activities: “Together, we can contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier planet for present and future generations.”
