PDP crisis: BoT meeting begins in Abuja

    Published on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has begun its meeting in Abuja.

The meeting is presided over by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum.

National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, Senator Ben Obi, BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Board Secretary Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, and former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola were among those in attendance.

The PDP BoT had convened an emergency meeting to discuss the party’s ongoing leadership issue.

Following Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s dismissal, Damagum took over as acting National Chairman. However, he has received rising criticism from party officials.

The criticism has been compounded by the ongoing crisis inside the PDP, with mounting calls for his resignation amid the chaos.

PDP leaders failed to resolve the party’s major concerns at the 98th National Executive Committee meeting on April 18, 2024.

Among these was a request from the North-Central region to replace the acting National Chairman with a permanent one, showing the party’s severe splits.

The 98th NEC meeting also planned the 99th NEC meeting for August 15, to handle lingering issues.

However, this meeting, which had been postponed to October 24, 2024 and then rescheduled for November 28, 2024, was eventually postponed forever.
