Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has publicly apologized for his previous statement that believers who do not pay tithes will not make it to heaven.

Speaking at the ongoing annual national youth convention at RCCG Redemption City, Adeboye acknowledged his mistake, stating, “I am going to be talking to everybody as soon as God permits me. I apologize for making a mistake by saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you will not be making it to heaven. That is wrong.”

He clarified that such a statement is not supported by biblical scripture, saying, “What the Bible says is to make peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see God.”

Adeboye elaborated on the complexity of being right and wrong simultaneously, comparing it to evolving scientific knowledge, such as the understanding of light. He recounted an inspiring experience at a Kenneth E. Hagin convention in Tulsa, United States, where a participant pledged to contribute more than the combined offerings of attendees, which totaled about $3.5 million for the building of Rhema Bible College.

The pastor shared a story about the man’s journey, beginning his business with just $500 and promising to give generously to God. Five years later, his business turnover reached $50 million. This testimony motivated Adeboye to encourage fervent giving toward God’s work.

He emphasized the importance of passionate praise and giving, stating, “Your giving must be of the violent type. King Solomon gave thousands of burnt offerings, and God promised him unparalleled peace and no wars.”

Adeboye’s remarks highlight the need for a deeper understanding of spiritual practices and the importance of a personal relationship with God.
