Commuters travelling through the Mile 12-Ketu corridor in Lagos were thrown into panic on Monday morning following reports of an armed robbery incident along the busy route.
According to eyewitness accounts circulating on social media, suspected hoodlums armed with cutlasses reportedly accosted vehicles in traffic, threatening motorists and attempting to pry open car doors.
One commuter recounted narrowly escaping an attack, lamenting the persistence of criminal activity in the area despite the presence of nearby security formations.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the Commissioner of Police has directed immediate action to restore order along the axis.
She disclosed that the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officer, and tactical units have been deployed to intensify patrols and flush out criminal elements operating between Mile 12 and Ketu.
“The Command is committed to safeguarding lives and property, and no area will be left unattended, particularly locations with repeated security concerns,” Adebisi said.
She also appealed to residents and road users to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to exercise caution while police operations continue to boost security and restore public confidence along the corridor.
