PANDEF Warns Secessionists: Niger Delta Not Part of Biafra

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has issued a stern warning to proponents of the Biafra Republic, stating that the Niger Delta and South-South geopolitical zone should not be included in any secessionist agenda. In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, signed by the forum’s National Youth Leader, Donben Donyegha, PANDEF distanced itself from the Biafra agitation, emphasizing its commitment to a united Nigeria founded on equality and justice.

“We warn that the continued inclusion of PANDEF areas or communities in the so-called Biafra Republic is provocative and insulting to the leaders of the Niger Delta region,” the statement read. Donyegha stressed that the youths of the Niger Delta would strongly resist any attempts to incorporate their region into the Biafra movement.

“Any further attempt to disregard or belittle our leaders with provocative publications or pronouncements about the Biafra Republic will meet strong resistance from us, the youths,” he added, urging secessionists to desist from such actions.

PANDEF reaffirmed its vision of a united Nigeria where subnational entities control their resources while remitting taxes to the federal government for essential services, including security and international diplomacy. The forum also highlighted the historical context of Nigeria’s federalism, noting that while the 1964 Constitution aimed for true federalism, subsequent military coups and the 1999 Constitution deviated from these ideals.

The forum praised its National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, for his intellectual standing and commitment to PANDEF’s mission. It concluded by urging both Nigerians and the international community to respect the Niger Delta’s position against being included in any secessionist movements.

PANDEF’s statement serves as a clear message to agitators to act responsibly and refrain from actions that could provoke unrest in the region.
