Osun APC, PDP Engage in Verbal war Over Adeleke’s Security Alert

The political arena in Osun State witnessed heated exchanges between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, sparked by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s security concerns regarding alleged plans by hoodlums to target schools and farm settlements in the state.

Governor Adeleke had sounded the alarm based on intelligence reports indicating potential attacks on educational institutions and farm settlements. He promptly convened a security council meeting to address the looming threat.

In response, the APC, represented by its state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, issued a statement accusing the governor of causing unnecessary panic by disseminating false security alerts.

Lawal expressed dismay at what he deemed as the governor’s diversionary tactics, urging Adeleke to focus on delivering the quality governance promised during his campaign rather than engaging in what he termed as a fabricated security agenda.

He asserted, “Governor Adeleke should focus on governance instead of concocting security threats to distract the populace. We see through this as an attempt to divert attention from pressing issues like economic challenges facing the state.”

On the other side, Sunday Bisi, the state PDP chairman, rebuked the Osun APC, condemning their denial of the reported security threats. Bisi criticized the APC for politicizing a matter of public safety.

Bisi defended Governor Adeleke’s proactive stance, emphasizing that the security council meeting, attended by top security officials, validated the seriousness of the situation. He accused the APC of being insensitive to the welfare and safety of the people by dismissing legitimate security concerns.

“The governor’s alert was a responsible act aimed at safeguarding the citizens. Instead of acknowledging his efforts, the opposition is playing politics and endangering lives,” Bisi remarked, urging the APC to prioritize the collective security of Osun State over political gamesmanship.
