Ohanaeze Youths Urge Tinubu to Fulfill Alleged Promise to Release Nnamdi Kanu

    Published on

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has called on President Bola Tinubu to fulfill an alleged promise made to the family of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), regarding his release. The group’s national president, Okwu Nnabuike, made this demand on Thursday, urging Tinubu to disregard comments made by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who has expressed skepticism about the impact of Kanu’s release on Southeast security.

    ### Alleged Pact and Soludo’s Remarks
Nnabuike stressed that Kanu’s family, specifically Kanu’s brother, Kanunta, had an agreement with Seyi Tinubu, the son of the president, during the 2023 presidential campaign. He claimed that the family and Tinubu had discussed Kanu’s release, and now, the president is expected to honor that pact.

Governor Soludo, in a statement last year, suggested that Kanu’s release would not necessarily end insecurity in the South-East, stating that the region’s issues were now driven by the pursuit of wealth, not liberation.

    ### Ohanaeze Youths’ Criticism of Soludo
Nnabuike rejected Soludo’s perspective, accusing him of lacking the ability to curb insecurity in Anambra State and shifting blame elsewhere. He also criticized Soludo for undermining the potential role Kanu’s release could play in stabilizing the region.

    ### Call for Unconditional Release
The Ohanaeze Youths president appealed to President Tinubu, urging him to fulfill his promise to Kanu’s family, arguing that releasing Kanu would help alleviate the tension in the South-East and contribute to lasting peace.

“We know that Mr. President is a man of honor. He should not allow the likes of Soludo to mislead him. He should do Ndigbo a great favor by ordering the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Nnabuike concluded
