Ododo Appoints Prof. AVIDIME RECTOR KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC

    Published on

The appointment of Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, marks a defining moment for technical education and institutional development in Kogi State. His emergence follows approval by the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who has tasked him with justifying the confidence placed in him through purposeful leadership and measurable institutional progress.

Professor Avidime steps into office with a reputation built on academic depth, administrative discipline, and policy-driven research. He is recognized as a seasoned scholar in Political Science, with a career spanning teaching, research, governance studies, and higher education administration. His academic journey reflects intellectual consistency and strong professional grounding across several reputable Nigerian universities.

His qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Bayero University Kano, a Master of Science in Public Finance from the University of Calabar, and a Doctorate in Political Science obtained from Kogi State University. These academic credentials have shaped his strong understanding of governance systems, public sector performance, and institutional management.

Over the years, he has built an impressive academic career, rising through university ranks to become an Associate Professor. His contributions to higher education include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising advanced research work, and publishing scholarly research across national and international platforms. His research interests focus on democratic governance, accountability, electoral behaviour, and grassroots development, areas considered critical to Nigeria’s democratic and institutional evolution.

Beyond the lecture room, Professor Avidime has served in several strategic institutional roles, including Head of Department, committee member on academic reforms, and contributor to university policy development. His work in academic quality assurance and institutional discipline has earned him recognition within Nigeria’s higher education sector.

His appointment comes at a time when technical education is increasingly central to economic competitiveness, skills development, and youth empowerment. Stakeholders across the education sector expect his leadership to strengthen academic standards, deepen research culture, and align technical education outcomes with industry demands.

This appointment reflects a broader shift towards competence-based leadership within Kogi State’s education sector. Professor Avidime’s academic and administrative track record suggests a leadership style anchored on structure, accountability, and long-term institutional reform.

If effectively supported by government and institutional stakeholders, his tenure could redefine technical education delivery, improve graduate employability, and position Kogi State Polytechnic as a stronger contributor to regional and national development.
