Obi stood out in tackling poverty as governor, says Prof Kpakol

The former Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo and foremost International Development Economist, Prof Magnus Kpakkol, has described former Anambra State Governor and the 2023 Labour Party presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, as outstanding among the lot in tackling corruption as a governor.

Kpakol spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of his book, ‘The Living Secret: Endowment for Development in Nigeria.’

“Peter Obi stood out as a governor who ran economic policies that connected with the people. He ran a system that connected with the people. No governor ran a policy that connected with the people more than Peter Obi. He engaged the people, and really, you can’t fight poverty without engaging the people,” Kpakol said.

When asked if the situation in Obi’s time is still necessary, Kpakol said that nothing has changed.

“Human capital development entails engaging the people, and that is what Obi did, and still says in his messages. I am not a politician, but talking as a professional, Peter Obi is outstanding in the engagement of the people in governance and in human capital development,” he said
