The South-East Director of the City Boy Movement (CBM), Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, on Saturday inaugurated the Anambra State chapter of the movement in Awka.
The event, held at San Antonio Blu Hotel (Waldorf Blu), brought together political stakeholders and supporters of the movement from across the state.
Among those inaugurated into the state executive were Chief Cletus Oragwa, also known as Zenco, who will serve as Patron, and Adaora Soludo, daughter of Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, who was named Women Coordinator.
According to a statement by Chidiebele Obika, Director, Media and Public Communication, other members of the newly constituted leadership include Chief Nonso Ozoemena as State Director, Dr Ernest Ebenebe as Deputy Director, Sir Johnbosco Onunkwo as Coordinator, and Cmr Tochukwu Obiadi as Secretary, Barr. Noel Anosike as Organising Secretary, among others.
Speaking at the inauguration, Iyiegbu explained that despite its name, the City Boy Movement is not restricted to men but is an inclusive platform open to all supporters.
“This is the first time I am openly participating in a political movement. I know some people may have reservations about my involvement, but we will continue to engage our brothers and make them understand the need to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He congratulated the newly inaugurated state executive and local government coordinators, urging them to remain committed to the ideals and objectives of the movement.
According to him, their dedication and unity would help strengthen support for the President while bringing development to the state.
In his remarks, the Anambra State Director of the movement, Chief Nonso Ozoemena, expressed appreciation to the national and zonal leadership of the group for attending the inauguration.
He described the City Boy Movement as a decent and non-partisan platform aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.
“Today is a significant day in the history of Anambra State. It is a day when people across different political divides have come together for the progress of Anambra,” he said.
“When we visited the Governor, he received us warmly and noted that progressives must work together. If we play our part well, Anambra will attract greater support from the Federal Government.”
Also speaking, the South-East Director of Finance of the movement, Ambassador Dr Elijah Onyeagba, emphasised the need for greater synergy between Anambra State and the Federal Government.
He said the City Boy Movement provides a strong platform to mobilise support for the President while fostering development in the region.
Following the inauguration, members of the movement proceeded to the office of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency in Agu-Awka, where Lenten palliatives donated by the National Leader of the movement, Seyi Tinubu, were distributed to vulnerable groups.
Beneficiaries included persons living with disabilities, sickle cell support groups, motherless babies’ homes, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, the Justice Development and Peace Commission, CeJUP South-East, as well as representatives from the 21 local government areas of the state.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the National Director of Media and Public Communication of the movement, Mrs Amaka Okafor; the South-East Director of Media and Public Communication, Dr Uche Nwora; and the APC State Secretary, Chief Obi Okpala.
