A former Anambra State governor and presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has again earned commendation for his philanthropic interventions in the education sector, following a N30 million donation to Paul University Awka.
The latest gesture was praised by renowned communication scholar, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, who described Obi as “a man of the people” and an “incomparable, world-class leader.”
Okunna, widely regarded as Sub-Saharan Africa’s first female professor of Mass Communication, made the remarks in a statement shared on her Facebook page after Obi’s visit to the institution on Friday, March 27, 2026.
According to her, the visit brought “immeasurable joy” to the university community, including its proprietor, Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, management, staff and students, who received the former governor during the engagement.
She noted that Obi, acting as a private citizen, has consistently deployed personal resources to support critical sectors, particularly education and healthcare, across the country.
“He constantly criss-crosses the nation touching lives positively, spreading joy through substantial financial support to institutions,” she said, adding that Paul University has been a recurring beneficiary of his interventions.
The professor, who also serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university, highlighted that Obi’s repeated visits and donations have had significant impact on the institution’s development.
Describing him as an “indomitable philanthropist,” Okunna offered prayers for continued blessings upon Obi and expressed hope that his vision for a “New Nigeria” would be realised.
Obi’s philanthropic record has attracted widespread public attention in recent years, with multiple donations to schools, hospitals and social causes across Nigeria.
