The open field of Ogbaki Primary School in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area, was transformed into a vibrant rally ground as Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki led a campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday. Accompanied by the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, and other prominent party leaders, Obaseki canvassed for votes, emphasizing the need for capable leadership in Edo State.
Addressing the crowd, Obaseki underscored the importance of electing a competent leader to navigate the challenges facing the state, particularly in the context of Nigeria’s current economic difficulties. He expressed confidence in Ighodalo and Ogie, stating that they are well-equipped to continue the developmental projects initiated by his administration. Specifically, Obaseki highlighted the School of Agriculture (Fishery and Aquaculture) project in Etsako East, assuring that Ighodalo would complete it if elected.
Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in his remarks, promised to prioritize the completion of ongoing projects and initiate new ones to benefit the people of Edo State. He also outlined plans to leverage the River Niger, which flows through Agenebode, to develop a blue economy. This initiative aims to create wealth for the riverine communities between Illushi in Esan South East and Agenebode by harnessing the economic potential of the river.
The rally also featured a show of support from Etsako East Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Benedicta Attoh, who assured the governor that the area is firmly behind the PDP. Additionally, Edo State PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, expressed gratitude to the people for their unwavering support and welcomed hundreds of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP fold.
