Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid tribute to the late Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, the former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), describing him as a figure of honor and dignity. Justice Ayoola, who passed away at the age of 90, was celebrated by Obasanjo for his exemplary public service and the lasting legacy he left behind.
In a condolence letter addressed to the Ayoola family, Obasanjo, who was informed of the jurist’s death while in Congo Brazzaville, expressed his shock at the news. He noted that Ayoola’s life was marked by significant contributions to Nigeria, reflecting his deep commitment to justice and integrity.
Obasanjo highlighted Ayoola’s illustrious career, which spanned numerous high-profile roles including Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Chief Justice of the Gambia. He also recalled appointing Ayoola as the Chairman of the ICPC during his administration, a role in which Ayoola earned widespread respect for his leadership and dedication to combating corruption.
The former president emphasized that Ayoola’s legacy would be remembered as one of patriotism, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the nation. He praised Ayoola’s humble and honest nature, which, combined with his professional excellence, earned him the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award.
Obasanjo concluded by stating that Justice Ayoola’s name would continue to be revered in Nigeria for his contributions to the country and the profound impact he had on those who knew him.
