President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of veteran media executive, Mr. Rotimi Richard Pedro, as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The President also announced other key appointments in the organisation, naming Mrs. Karimah Bello as Executive Director, Marketing; Mrs. Stella Din as Executive Director, News; and Mrs. Sophia Essahmed as Managing Director, NTA Enterprises Limited.

Mr. Pedro, a Lagos-born media entrepreneur and consultant, has nearly 30 years of leadership experience in broadcasting, sports rights, and marketing communications across Africa, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East.

He is an entertainment and intellectual property lawyer, and holds a Master’s degree in Investment Management and Finance from City University Business School, London.

In 1995, he founded Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), which grew into one of Africa’s leading sports content providers, distributing major events such as the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF competitions to audiences in over 40 countries.

Mr. Pedro has also held top roles at Bloomberg Television Africa, Rapid Blue Format, and served as consultant to FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB). He was instrumental in securing exclusive pan-African free-to-air media rights for all CAF competitions for the AUB.

Industry watchers credit him with developing commercially viable broadcast platforms, boosting sponsorship revenues, and delivering quality content to African audiences.

His appointment is seen as a major step in the Federal Government’s plan to modernise and reposition the NTA in the face of increasing competition in the media
