State police, key to solving Nigeria’s security crisis — Gov Sani

    Published on

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reiterated his call for the creation of state police, describing it as the most practical solution to Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) Distinguished Lecture Series in Lagos, the governor said the time had come to move from endless debates to action, stressing that empowering communities and fostering trust were crucial to peace.

Delivering a lecture titled “The Role of State Governments in Overcoming Insecurity in Nigeria,” Governor Sani argued that real security can only be achieved through fairness and collaboration among all levels of government.

He said, “We must shift from rhetoric to results. State police will enhance accountability and enable governors to respond swiftly to security issues within their jurisdictions.”

NIIA Director General, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, commended Sani’s position and urged stronger partnerships between federal, state, and local governments to improve national security.

The lecture, part of NIIA’s peace and governance initiative, underscored the link between domestic stability and Nigeria’s international image.
