Northern youths defend APC chairman, dismiss calls for resignation

    Published on

The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has condemned calls for the resignation of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, describing the move as a ploy by opposition agents to destabilize the ruling party.

At a press conference in Abuja, NNYLF National President, Murtala Gamji, said the individuals behind the call were not genuine APC members and lacked the moral credibility to question the chairman’s leadership.

He was reacting to a statement by the APC Youth Solidarity Network (APC-YSN), led by Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince, which had issued a two-week ultimatum for Yilwatda’s resignation, alleging dwindling party influence and poor leadership.

Gamji dismissed the claims, insisting that Prof. Yilwatda had only recently assumed office and had already begun attracting high-profile figures to the party. He alleged that those behind the campaign were PDP loyalists disguised as APC members bent on creating internal strife.

“The person leading this smear campaign is not even an APC member. We were classmates in ABU Zaria. He’s a PDP man from Auchi, Edo State, already sanctioned within his party,” Gamji said.

He further debunked claims that Yilwatda prevented Governor Caleb Mutfwang from defecting to the APC, stressing that the chairman was a democrat who encouraged inclusivity.

The Forum also condemned calls for President Tinubu to investigate National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing such agitation as the handiwork of individuals who “do not mean well for Nigeria.”

Gamji reaffirmed that no attempt to destabilize the APC leadership would succeed, warning that the forum would resist all efforts to undermine party unity ahead of 2027.
