Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged the Federal Government to listen to the calls and release Mr Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Okeke-Ogene emphasized that prominent figures, including Anambra Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and other stakeholders, have previously urged the government to release Kanu.

He highlighted that upholding the rule of law and respecting individuals’ fundamental human rights are crucial for stabilizing the country’s political climate.

Okeke-Ogene stressed that respecting the rule of law restores people’s confidence in governance, and he appealed to the government to disregard calls for Kanu’s prolonged detention.

He strongly condemned the recent statements made by ex-Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo, who advised the government not to release the IPOB leader, stating that Dokubo’s remarks were driven by personal and selfish motives to seek favor from the government.

Okeke-Ogene further stated that keeping Nnamdi Kanu in detention is not in the country’s best interest, considering that various courts of competent jurisdiction have already granted him freedom.

He assured that Igbo stakeholders remain committed to their efforts in ensuring Kanu’s release. He praised the Ekwulobia flyover project and other infrastructure initiatives for their role in driving sustainable development and fostering a brighter future for the state.

He commended those who have been directly affected by the project for their cooperation and support in working alongside the state government.
