Mr Rabiu Umar, the Authority Chief Executive (ACE) of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has advised people to embrace sporting activities, particularly golf.

Umar gave the advice at the weekend during the grand finale of the 2026 Upstream Invitational Golf Tournament” in Warri.

The week-long event was convened by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The ACE who came to participate in the grand finale of the tournament, said that the event served as a platform to further strengthen the existing collaborations with the sister agency (NUPRC) and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.

“The tournament is very good, it is for collaboration, relaxation and sharing of ideals outside the formal office settings.

“I will advise everybody to register and know how to play golf,” the ACE said.

Recall that the tournament which was hosted at the Ogunu Golf Resort, brought together key stakeholders from the oil and gas industry to unwind and strengthened institutional ties.

The presence of the ACE at the tournament underscores the renewed synergy and collaborative framework between the NMDPRA and NUPRC.

Earlier, while speaking on the sideline the Commission Chief Executive, NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, emphasised that the competition served a purpose far beyond the golf course.

According to her, “it provides a vital, informal avenue for regulatory and corporate leaders to exchange ideas, foster partnerships, and build camaraderie outside of formal office settings”.

It would be recalled that, both regulatory bodies had continued to emphasise the importance of harmonious cooperation to ensure efficiency, energy security, and sustainable growth within the Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

The tournament which kicked-off on June 22, 2026 with caddies, followed by professional golfers, and ultimately culminated with the highly competitive face-off among members of the Ogunu Club and their invited guests.

The event was rounded-off with a grand gala dinner.

Highlights of the tournament was the
presentation of trophies to the tournament winners, sponsors and industry stakeholders at the gala night.
