The Nigerian Independent System Operator NISO has renewed its warning over a rogue social media account spreading unverified information about the country’s power infrastructure.
The NISO issued a fresh public warning, urging citizens, media organizations, and stakeholders to disregard an unauthorized account on X (formerly Twitter) operating under the name “Nigeria National Grid.”
In a statement, NISO, the legal entity mandated to manage Nigeria’s National Grid said it does not own, manage, control, or operate the said account, and that those running it are unknown to the organization and are in no way authorized to speak on its behalf.
The operator noted with concern that the account has continued to disseminate misleading and unauthorized information about the power grid to the public, despite a formal disassociation notice issued as far back as January 2026.
“The public, media organizations, and all stakeholders are strongly advised not to quote, reference, rely upon, or attribute any information, statements, or claims” from the account, the statement read.
NISO called on the media and the general public to assist in reporting the account, and affirmed its commitment to transparent, accurate, and responsible communication through only its verified and official channels.
Members of the public seeking information about the National Grid are advised to rely solely on communications originating directly from NISO’s authorized platforms.
