The Nimo Women for Peace Foundation has organized a free medical outreach and empowerment programme for indigent women in Nimo community as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8.
The two-day initiative, which held on Friday and Saturday, provided free medical consultations and health screenings for residents across Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Medical professionals at the outreach, stationed at Oye Nimo, conducted various tests including blood pressure checks, blood sugar screening, examination of the heart and lungs, as well as general health consultations.
In addition to the medical services, the foundation also empowered some indigent women with financial support to help improve their livelihoods.
As part of its commitment to promoting girl-child education, the organization also sponsored the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees for a girl.
Speaking during the programme, the Coordinator of the foundation, Mrs. Chinyere Isineyi, said the initiative was designed to celebrate women and the girl-child while addressing the critical health and economic challenges faced by vulnerable women in society.
According to her, the outreach aligns with the theme of the 2026 International Women’s Day, “Give to Gain.”
“We must continue to support women and the girl-child by providing opportunities that will improve their health, education and economic well-being.
“Through this outreach, we want to ensure that women in our community receive basic healthcare and encouragement to live healthier and more productive lives,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Pius Rita Ijeoma, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the gesture, noting that the free medical services and empowerment support would go a long way in assisting women who cannot afford regular medical care.
She assured that the financial support would be used judiciously and offered prayers for the donors, asking God to reward them abundantly for their generosity.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out more humanitarian programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women, children and other vulnerable members of the community.
Beneficiaries of the empowerment programme include Omabu Eucharia, Onya Nwamaka, Okaro Onyeka, Agha Ngozi, Pius Rita Ijeoma, Anajemba Ebele, Ezeamii Theresa, Anigbogu Ifeoma and Enuaku Charity.
