The director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Charles Anosike, has assured that the agency is committed to repositioning for improved service delivery. This commitment was expressed during a three-day NiMet management retreat in Abuja on Tuesday, where Mr. Anosike emphasized the importance of advancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the agency.

The overarching objectives of the 2024 NiMet management retreat include fostering collaborative relationships among the agency’s staff and breaking down internal barriers that may impede productivity.

Anosike urged active participation from the retreat participants, emphasizing the significance of understanding the work NiMet does in meteorology. He stressed the importance of treating the science of meteorology seriously, considering its impact on lives, properties, and the economy.

Despite prevailing economic challenges, Anosike highlighted opportunities in the external environment for NiMet. He called for efforts to reduce operational wastage, prioritize spending, and enhance internally generated revenue.

NiMet’s services directly relate to weather and climate in Nigeria, impacting various sectors of the economy. The agency’s mandate includes observing, analyzing, and timely reporting of weather and climate for socio-economic development, as well as ensuring the safety of lives and property.
