Nigerian FIFA-badge referee, Yemisi Akintoye, has been chosen to officiate at the 2023 African Women’s Champions League, scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19. Akintoye, a graduate of the University of Lagos, was among the 17 referees shortlisted from across Africa and one of the 12 referees ultimately selected after completing an intensive one-week pre-tournament course.

A statement from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday officially confirmed Akintoye’s participation in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League. She will be working alongside Salma Musaganda from Rwanda, who holds the distinction of being the first African woman referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup.
Akintoye earned her FIFA Referee badge in 2021 and has built her international experience through officiating at various competitions, including the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others. Her selection for the 2023 African Women’s Champions League is a testament to her expertise and dedication in the field of football refereeing.
