Nigerian Army condemns officer’s death in Akwa Ibom

    Published on

The Nigerian Army has condemned the killing of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, Regimental Medical Officer of the 6 Battalion, who reportedly died after his wife set him ablaze during a domestic dispute at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State.

In an issued statement, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lawal Muhammad, said the Army expresses deep sadness over the tragic incident, which occurred on September 22, 2025.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a heated argument between Haruna and his wife, Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Haruna, escalated when she allegedly set household items on fire, which spread and engulfed the officer.

He was first stabilised at the Battalion Medical Facility before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he later died from severe burns.

“The Nigerian Army strongly condemns this act of domestic violence and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the statement said.

It assured that the military police have commenced investigations, urging the public to remain calm as due process takes its course.
