The Nigeria Police have rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was trafficked into Nigeria under false pretenses of securing travel documents for him to migrate to Europe.

According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, the rescue operation was carried out on June 27, 2025, in Abuja by operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, working closely with the FCT Command.

This followed actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana, on June 16.

“investigations revealed that in January 2025, the victim’s father, Mr Nartey Louda, paid GHC 55,000 to a trafficker identified as Attah, who promised to facilitate a French visa and other travel documents for his son.

“Acting on these assurances, Sammed was directed to travel to Abuja, Nigeria, where he arrived on June 25.

“However, upon his arrival, he was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in internet fraud activities linked to the QNET pyramid scheme, a fraudulent enterprise disguised as an e-commerce business.

“The syndicate also attempted to exploit other individuals, including another Ghanaian who managed to escape and alert authorities in Ghana.” Adejobi said.

“This report triggered the international collaboration that led to Sammed’s rescue.

“Thanks to swift intelligence sharing, proactive surveillance, and fast response from INTERPOL NCB Abuja and local police operatives, the victim was safely rescued, and reintegration processes are currently underway.

“Meanwhile, INTERPOL NCB Abuja has commenced steps to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.” He concluded

The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to exercise due diligence, verify travel-related offers through official diplomatic channels, and report all suspicious persons or activities happening around them through appropriate and official law enforcement channels.
