The Executive director ,Networks, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited ( NDPHC) Engr. IfeOluwa Oyedele has said that NDPHC has built power generation capacity of 4,000MW . Oyedele added that “at least 60 percent of the transmission lines and 60 percent of TCN substations and able to generate 4000mw in Nigeria as capacity addition to the Nation’s power networks “

Oyedele disclosed this while making a remark at the just concluded award night organized by the University of Lagos Alumni as part of the activities to mark the Institution 60th anniversary in Lagos.

He commended the current government’s support on power generation and the entire value chain.
According to him a lot has been achieved considering the commitment and Investment that were made by this administration.
” I am sure very soon we would start seeing the results of the efforts of this government in the last two years.”

He stressed that why Nigeria has not yet gotten the power problem right was because the results of the privatization of the power sector, which was not properly executed by the government at that time stressing that the process and template used for the exercise was not followed to its logical conclussion as directed by the World bank and Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE).

” If they had followed that model we would not be where we are today in the power sector.”

“I think over the years we did not do what was supposed to be done. And this is hurting the country now.”

Oyedele described NDPHC as the most successful publicly owned organization in Africa today that owns the largest fleet of power plants, and generation stations in Nigeria and indeed in Africa.

According to him the intervention in the transmission sector is almost 60 percent of the entire sector, pointing out that NDPHC built at least 60 percent of the transmission lines and 60 percent of TCN substations in Nigeria as today . “And when one talk about the distribution sector, we have done over 310 injection substations in Nigeria.

“I don’t know any community in Nigeria that has not felt the impact of NDPHC. We have not slowed down at all. We are able to generate 4000mw and the transmission lines are not able to take more than 4000mw.” So we have to share what we are producing with other generating companies in Nigeria, This is the reason why people think we have slowed down.

Meanwhile the money we are making from the sales of this energy is what we are using to do the projects we are doing.

He said that the company use to have petroleum equalization fund which has dried up.
“If you remove all the networks the company has built, Nigeria will be in total darkness. So we are very proud of our achievements, what we have done and we believe we can do more and we are doing more.”
