    NDLEA destroys 300kg of assorted illicit drugs in Kogi

    The Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)says it has discovered and destroyed 300 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs in the state.

     Umar Yahuza, the State NDLEA commandant said the operation in led to the seizure of assorted illicit drugs including Cannabis sativa and other psychotropic substances

    He disclosed that the Command also intercepted several shipments of hard drugs being transported through the state to other parts of the country.

    “We will resist criminals’ attempts to use Kogi as a transit camp for their illegal businesses,” he declared.

    He explained that, acting on credible intelligence, operatives conducted raids in the Elugu-Egugu forest of Olamaboro Local Council, where two suspects were arrested and over seven hectares of cannabis farms were destroyed.

    “These successes were achieved with intelligence operations in line with the current leadership of the agency led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd),” he said.

    The Commandant added that the agency also embarked on sensitisation programmes in worship centres, motor parks, schools, and in partnership with non-governmental organisations, to enlighten the public on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
