Madubuachi Idam, an activist lawyer, announced on Wednesday that Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, should be removed from office owing to serious misbehavior and abuse of power.
Idam charged that Senator Natasha Akpoti of Kogi and Akpabio had turned the Senate into a farce.
He emphasized that the Senate President has continuously demonstrated bad charisma in his handling of the Senate’s operations and called the ongoing dispute between Akpabio and Natasha “shameful.”
Remember how the fight began on the Senate floor when Natasha found out her seat had been reassigned following the resumption of session?
Natasha contested the ruling, refusing to follow the new arrangement, which led to a contentious discussion in the chamber.
Natasha and the Senate President got into a furious argument on Thursday of last week as a result of the circumstance.
“I’m not afraid of you,” Natasha said, challenging Akpabio in a widely shared video.
Idam responded by saying that such careless behavior won’t cease until parliamentarians realize that impeachment is legal and not a form of revolt.
Idam signed a statement that read: “The National Assembly has become a joke due to the constant controversies surrounding Senator Akpabio on the Senate floor. The fact that Akpabio and Natasha now take their differences to the regular President of the Brekete Family for resolution is more embarrassing—or rather, amusing.
“Akpabio’s handling of the Senate’s business and operations has continuously shown a lack of charisma. I believe that his public appearances have become too careless or careless. He has consequently failed to conduct himself in a way that is appropriate for someone in his position. He no longer makes an effort to conduct himself or the Senate in the way that is expected of him, and he falls and makes mistakes far too frequently.
“Today, under Mr. Akpabio’s leadership, the National Assembly’s influence that it had over the years has diminished in the eyes of the public. Senate members’ careless actions in public positions will continue until they realize that impeachment is a legitimate and democratic demand rather than a sign of rebellion or treason.
Because of his egregious wrongdoing and abuse of authority, Mr. Akpabio is due for impeachment. Nigeria’s democracy grows stronger the sooner laws are put into place to accomplish a democratic goal.
