The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has refuted claims that the House of Representatives has requested the revocation of airstrip licenses for Living Faith Church and other private entities.
In a statement on his social media account, Keyamo clarified that there has been no formal call from the House for the revocation of any airstrip licenses. He stated, “This is not correct. The House of Representatives did not ask the Minister to revoke the license of any private airstrip.”
Recent reports suggested that the House intended to stop the issuance of new airstrip licenses and revoke those already granted to private organizations, including the church, citing national security concerns. However, Keyamo explained that a motion on this issue was raised, which was then referred to the Aviation Committee for further investigation.
He emphasized the intricacies of aviation regulations, noting, “The intention of the Hon. Member who moved it is very patriotic, but it stems from a complete lack of understanding of the aviation sector.” Keyamo elaborated on the regulations surrounding private airstrips, explaining that once constructed, control is transferred to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), which oversees air traffic management in the country.
He reassured the public, stating, “It is COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY impossible for any private airstrip owner to just jump on an aircraft and fly in and out of the country through that facility,” emphasizing the stringent security measures enforced by the Federal Government.
