The Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources for Nigeria’s sustainable development.

Lawal made this known while congratulating Engr. (Mrs.) Bahijjahtu Hadiza Abubakar, Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, for winning the 2025 Presidential Distinguished Civil Service Career Award during the Civil Service Week.

In a message, the Minister said:

“This outstanding achievement recognizes her dedication, expertise, and contributions to environmental protection and management in Nigeria.”

He applauded her commitment to a healthier environment and urged her to use the honour as motivation to rededicate herself to public service.

Eighteen awardees from various MDAs were recognised at the 2025 Civil Service Rewards and Recognition Night. Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) Bahijjahtu received the highest national award, including an SUV, laptop, plaque, certificate, foreign short course, and a masterclass opportunity.

The Rewards and Recognition Ceremony is organised annually by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) as part of Civil Service Week celebrations.

Highlights of this year’s edition included the International Conference for Civil Service, which featured delegates from state civil services, private sector, NGOs, and international partners.
