Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle praised the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) for its significant contributions to the nation’s military capabilities. Speaking at the 60th anniversary of DICON and the inaugural Africa Defence Industries Conference in Abuja, Matawalle emphasized the corporation’s role in equipping the armed forces and enhancing national security.

Matawalle outlined the DICON Strategy Map 2030, which aims to strengthen national security, promote sustainable development, and drive economic diversification through defense sector industrialization, digitization, and innovation. He highlighted the strategic plan’s goal of positioning DICON as a leader in defense innovation across Africa.

“This initiative represents a landmark effort to unite defense experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the continent and beyond,” Matawalle stated. He stressed the importance of collaboration and innovation in overcoming the country’s current challenges and achieving a more self-reliant defense sector.

Reflecting on DICON’s 60-year history, Matawalle acknowledged its crucial role in bolstering Nigeria’s defense infrastructure and praised the recent enactment of the DICON Act 2023 by President Bola Tinubu. The new legislation enhances DICON’s autonomy and operational efficiency, enabling it to better meet the evolving defense needs of the nation.

Matawalle encouraged conference participants to leverage the event as a platform for learning, collaboration, and innovation, paving the way for a more secure future for Nigeria and Africa. DICON, operated by the Nigerian Armed Forces, continues to be pivotal in the production of defense and civilian products.
