The Africa Movie Academy Awards AMAA has announced Made Kuti, the acclaimed Afrobeat singer and multi-instrumentalist, as the headline performer for its 21st edition.

The award ceremony is scheduled for November 9, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, in Ikeja, Lagos.

The event is expected to draw a massive gathering of film practitioners from across the African continent and the diaspora.

Tony Anih, the chief operating officer of AMAA, who confirmed the details from the award’s secretariat in Lagos, revealed that this year’s ceremony will be elevated by live performances from some of the biggest names in African music.

Also speaking, Kingsley James, AMAA’s technical director, promised an unforgettable night.

“We have an impeccable and African lineup that would wow all attendees. For musical performances, the cast will be led by Made Kuti, the hugely talented multi-instrumentalist and grandson of Afrobeat progenitor, Fela Anikulapo Kuti,” he said.

The musical roster will also feature DJ Kenchello, with the Ebony Band providing live music throughout the evening.

The award night will be preceded by a weekend of events, beginning with the Africa Fashion Show on November 7.

The show, organised by the Africa Film Academy (AFA) — the producers of AMAA — will herald the fashion weekend in Lagos.

Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, while speaking on the vision for the 21st edition, emphasised its significance as a tribute to the founder’s legacy.

“We are intentional about making the 2025 edition one of the best AMAAs that Africans will celebrate,” he said.

 “This has always been what our late sister and founder, Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe, had been planning and wished for before her death. We will actualise the dream to the glory of God, the legacy of PMO, and the lofty strides of the African film sector.”

The event is also set to be graced by a host of Nollywood stars and dignitaries from various walks of life, uniting to honour the finest achievements in African filmmaking.
