Moshood Oshun, the lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland in the House of Representatives, has successfully empowered 200 youths with vocational skills and start-up capital.

This initiative, executed in collaboration with Kadena Consult Ltd and the Nigeria Press Council (NPC), aimed to provide participants with practical skills for self-sufficiency. The beneficiaries underwent a week-long training program covering bead making, wig making, makeup application, Gele tying, and event decoration.

During the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, Oshun urged the participants to utilize their training wisely and strive for financial independence, encouraging them to become employers of labor.

He highlighted the importance of vocational skills training, noting that not everyone would have the opportunity to secure white-collar jobs, which are increasingly scarce in the country. “The start-up capital is meant to provide you with the necessary funds to kickstart your endeavors. Use it wisely,” he advised.

Oshun also called on Nigerians to embrace vocational skills in light of the current economic realities. He expressed optimism about the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that its effects would soon become evident. He acknowledged that initial hardships are necessary to correct systemic issues.

Tony Nelson, a representative from Kadena Consult Ltd, commended Oshun for sponsoring the program and expressed gratitude for its success. He encouraged participants to make the most of their acquired skills.

Rosemary Sheidu from the Nigeria Press Council urged the graduates to invest in their newfound knowledge, emphasizing the program’s role in fostering self-reliance.

Mrs. Mosun Odukale, CEO of Multi Jewel Training Centre, noted that some participants had already begun securing contracts based on their skills. She encouraged them to maintain high standards and leverage the opportunities presented by their training. “We trained you how to fish so that you can become employers of labor,” she said.

Among the beneficiaries, makeup trainee Omolabake Muritala expressed her excitement, describing the training as enlightening and a pathway to new opportunities. “With this empowerment, I no longer need to chase a white-collar job. I can now serve at least eight clients a day and earn enough to support my family,” she shared.

Another participant, Ajiboye Taiwo, who focused on event decoration, described the program as transformative, stating, “I have gained the confidence to start my own business and train others as well.”
