Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) has joined other Deltans in mourning late Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi, who died in the early hours of Friday.

Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, in his condolence message, described the late Nwaoboshi as a consummate party administrator.

He also described the late former lawmaker who was his immediate predecessor as a long standing political figure and dedicated community leader.

He said that Nwaoboshi would be remembered for his notable contributions to the political development of Delta and Anioma land, dating back to the 1990s.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and grief that I received the sad news of the passing of Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi.

“He no doubt contributed immensely to the social and political evolution of Delta as a state, Delta North as well as the Nation, having held key positions as party Chairman, Civil Commissioner and Senator among other offices.

“On behalf of myself, family and political associates, I extend my deep commiseration to the family on this difficult moment of the loss of their patriarch.

“May the Almighty grant the entire family and indeed the people of Oshimili, Anioma and Delta at large the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss” Nwoko said.

News of the demise of the former lawmaker filtered in late Friday afternoon.

Nwaoboshi, who hailed from Isieke, Umuekea quarters in Ibusa, served as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023.

He began his political journey in the late 1970s as an aide to the then governor of the old Bendel, a role that marked the foundation of a long and influential political career.

He later served as Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, among other strategic national appointments.

Beyond this, Nwaoboshi was a political adviser to former Delta governor, Chief James Ibori, and subsequently held the position of Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Special Duties between 2000 and 2006.

“From 2008 to 2014, he served as State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta, before resigning to contest for the senate, a move that further elevated his political stature.

He was fondly referred to as the “Oracle in Politics”.
