    KWSG Committed To Childcare, Protection: Commissioner

    Kwara State government has reiterated its commitment to childcare and protection, warning that it would view seriously issues inimical to the protection and enhancement of the welfare of Kwara children.

    The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Afolashade Justina Oluwakemi Opeyemi, stated this on Tuesday in Ilorin during the inauguration of the State Technical Working Groups on Alternative Care for Children in Kwara State.

    Hon. Afolashade disclosed that the National Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria is a national document, which was developed to provide harmonised standards and guidance for the care and protection of children, affirming it would go a long way in preserving the glorious future of Kwara children.

    Hon Afolashade, who said the Ministry is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating matters that concerns women and children in the state, pledged the unalloyed support of the Ministry, while also assuring the group of her open door policy any time.

    Earlier, the Director, Child Development, Hajia Idiat Alabi, had commended the group, adding that, the inauguration of the committee marks a significant step towards ensuring every child has access to safe nurturing and supportive environment.

    In his remarks, the Assistant National Secretary of Child Protection Network in Nigeria, Barrister Michael Awo Ejeh explained that the core objective of the inaugurated committee was orientation and planning of meetings, develop their work plan and also identify advocacy groups they would work with.
