Korede Bello: “poverty kills curiosity, limits creativity”

    Published on

Nigerian singer, Korede Bello, has shared deep thoughts on how poverty affects education, creativity, and the ability to dream beyond survival.
In a reflective Instagram video, Korede Bello said one of the greatest threats to curiosity — the drive that fuels learning and innovation — is poverty.
He used Elon Musk as an example, saying the billionaire wouldn’t have the luxury of thinking about space travel if he were worried about rent or food.
“Think about this, right? Is Elon Musk going to be so concerned about space travel if his rent was due or if he didn’t know what he was going to eat tomorrow?”
Korede explained that many people with the potential to change the world are unable to explore their creativity because they are driven by hunger and survival.
He added that if African youths had access to basic needs and stable resources, the continent would experience a massive shift in innovation and development.
“If money wasn’t an issue, what would you learn? What would you think about? Because the truth is, it’s a privilege to follow your curiosity when you’re not worried about surviving.”
The singer went on to say that the most successful people in the world often go beyond traditional education — they’re self-taught, curious, and passionate about how the world works.
He concluded by saying, “When you stop surviving is when you start living. If you’re still surviving, you never get to live.”
