    Kogi Poly trains Academic stakeholders on examination preparation, conduct, misconducts.

    The Management of Kogi State Polytechnic has organised a seminar to enlighten members of Staff on the sensitivities of examination preparation, conduct, management and misconduct.

    This is aimed at bridging the existing gap in the examination process and misconduct and encourage proper organization.

    A statement issued on Wednesday by the institutions public relations officer,Uredo Omale stated that the 3-Day seminar which was organized by the Central Examination Misconduct Committee.

    The Deputy Rector, Dr. Felix Kehinde Lamidi who chaired the seminar said the sensitization became necessary to identify gaps and to review the various approaches adopted over the years in handling examination processes.

    He urged the participants to pay keen attention to the lectures and put them into practice.

    The keynote speaker Professor Muhammed Suleiman Audu who delivered a paper on “the Processing and Handling of Examination by Stakeholders” noted that the conduct of any examination should be treated as crucial and stakeholders must handle it with utmost seriousness.

    Professor Audu who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Federal University Lokoja (FUL), added that a well organized examination with standard setting must contain adequate information regarding the course code, title and unit and that the examination questions must be clearly instructed and unambiguous for easy comprehension.

    Represented by Dr. (Mrs) Roseline Oshowolo, the Keynote speaker said that stakeholders should do checks and balances on their examination papers as the quality of the content can go as far as projecting the good image of the institution.

    Prof. Audu added that the method of invigilation, protocol, grading and vetting of examination script, processing of result, post examination review, grading system and computation of results must be done accurately in line with the laid down guidelines.

    The guest speaker, Mr. S. A Roland who gave an overview on the vision, mission and core values of the Polytechnic and the academic staff pointed out the need for the staff and students to know the core values of the institution and how it relates to academics.

    He further stated that the management of the institution should create more awareness scheme for the students and staff to be inculcated with adequate knowledge about the vision and mission of the institution, as that would help sharpen understanding about examination conduct and misconduct.

    In their separate remarks at the seminar, top management members of the Polytechnic including Mr. Femi Olaitan, Director of Research and Innovation,; Dean, School of Preliminary Studies, Mrs. Leah Omolegbe; Dean, School of Part Time and Vocational Studies, Dr Emmanuel Attah and Mrs Dupe Kolawole dwelt extensively on the need to check and control examination misconduct.

    They further stressed the need for invigilators to be thorough with attendance, proper monitoring of students, proper labelling of question papers and that student be made to sign the attendance sheet before and after the examinations.

    The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman commended the participants for contributions to the success of the program, adding that their contributions have proven that the program has achieved its aim and would ensure greater success.

    Dr. Usman stressed the need for staff and students to be conversant with the students’ handbook as it would help guide on the dos and don’ts regarding examination and its processes.

    Other highlights of the seminar was question and answer session among the participants and guest speakers.

    The three day seminar is expected to end on Thursday 15th December, 2022.
