In Katsina, the government has taken significant steps towards enhancing financial management and pension systems. Malam Ibrahim Kalau, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, made an official announcement on Monday regarding the inauguration of these important committees. The governor has also launched committees dedicated to local government pension and gratuity reforms, as well as forest management, each with distinct responsibilities outlined.

Heading these committees is Mohammed Aminu-Isiyaku, who will lead the TSA committee. Meanwhile, Dr. Faruq Aminu has been appointed to head the pension and gratuity reforms committee. Alhaji Khalil Bako has been chosen as the chairperson for the forest management committee. The committees have been given a four-week timeframe to compile their findings and present them to the state government.

The TSA Committee includes key figures such as the state’s Auditor General, Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Additionally, the Technical Assistant to the Governor on treasury and the state’s Accountant General are among the committee members.

The Pension and Gratuity Reforms Committee comprises the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Establishment, Pensions, and Training, along with auditors-general from all local governments. The committee also features representatives from the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Director of Finance at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and other relevant stakeholders.

The Forest Management Committee consists of representatives from various state ministries including agriculture and justice, the House of Assembly, and the Katsina chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON). In addition, members from organizations such as the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association and Kautal Hore Association, along with a secretary from the Governor’s Office, are part of this committee.

These committees have been tasked with generating comprehensive recommendations for optimizing the implementation of the TSA in the state, addressing the recurring challenge of pension and gratuity payment delays, and safeguarding the preservation of Katsina’s forest lands from conversion into agricultural areas.
