The Kaduna State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement across four Local Government Areas (LGAs) ahead of the scheduled bye-elections taking place on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
In a press statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the affected LGAs are Sabon Gari, Zaria, Chikun, and Kajuru. The restriction will begin at midnight—12:00 a.m. on Saturday—and will remain in force throughout the election period.
According to the Command, the measure is a proactive security step aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and orderly conduct of the bye-elections in the designated areas.
“The restriction is to prevent any breach of peace and to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officers, and other stakeholders during the process,” the statement read.
The police, however, clarified that individuals on essential duties and those with official election assignments would be exempted from the movement ban.
Residents are urged to comply with the directive and cooperate fully with security personnel deployed across polling areas.
The Police Command further called on citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and assured the public of its readiness to respond swiftly to any security threat during the exercise.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct the bye-elections to fill vacant legislative seats across the affected LGAs.
