Italian heavyweights Juventus are reportedly lining up a blockbuster summer move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with several Italian newspapers claiming the Turin club are prepared to table an offer in the region of €120 million.
The Old Lady’s admiration for Osimhen is no secret. They made an attempt to prise him away before his switch to Galatasaray two years ago, but failed to reach an agreement at the time.
Now, with Juventus enduring what many supporters consider a frustrating and underwhelming campaign, the club’s hierarchy are said to be planning a major rebuild aimed at restoring domestic dominance in Serie A.
Osimhen recently fuelled speculation by speaking warmly about the Bianconeri, describing them as one of the most important clubs in football history and hinting that it would be a place where he could enjoy his football and feel at home.
However, any deal will not come cheaply. Galatasaray are understood to value their talismanic forward at around €150 million, a figure that reflects both his impact in Turkey and his pedigree from his time in Italy.
The Nigerian spent four productive years in Serie A, famously helping Napoli secure the Scudetto before seeking a new challenge in the Turkish Super Lig.
While transfer talk swirls, Osimhen continues to deliver on the pitch.
On Wednesday night at the Juventus Stadium, the 27-year-old etched his name into Galatasaray folklore despite a narrow 3-2 defeat. His first-half strike, Galatasaray’s opening goal of the game, took his European tally for the club to 13, making him the highest-scoring foreign player in their history in continental competitions.
In doing so, he overtook the previous record of 12 set by former Czech forward Milan Baros.
Osimhen has now registered seven goals and two assists in this season’s Champions League. His scoring exploits place him joint fourth in the competition’s scoring charts alongside Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, further evidence of his standing among Europe’s elite forwards.
