Iwobi Apologises for Red Card, Commends Super Eagles Newcomers

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted fault and apologised for the late red card he received during Nigeria’s 2-2 friendly draw with Jordan on March 31.

Iwobi was sent off after reacting angrily to being held back by Amer Jamous during the clash in Turkey.

Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, the former Arsenal midfielder accepted responsibility for the incident.

“I need to address what I did and apologise to all my Nigerian teammates, staff, and everyone who cares about Nigeria. My actions were not good enough, and I got sent off,” Iwobi stated.

“But I will learn from this and keep moving on. We got a draw; we didn’t lose, so we will take the positives.”

The Fulham star added, “I want to apologise for the mistake.”

Despite the sending-off, Iwobi also highlighted positives from the international break, singling out two new defenders who impressed on debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu both featured in the second half of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly win over Iran in Antalya.

Goals from Akor Adams and Moses Simon secured victory for coach Eric Chelle’s side.

Reflecting on the match, Iwobi said, “Nice to get the win. Credit to Iran, they’re a good, solid team.

“Credit to us, we got the two goals we needed. Shout out to the two centre-backs who played the second half on their debuts.

“They did well, they did solid. It was a good performance. We won, and that gives us a confidence boost.”
