    Indigenous engine oil recycling firm seeks legislation to encourage proper disposal

    The Management of Bunorr Integrated Energy Services Limited is seeking legislation to stop indiscriminate disposal of used engine oil avert environmental degradation.

    According to the firm, the law making it compulsory to recycle used engine oil will ensure a cleaner environment and ensure a steady stream of raw materials for the 60,000 liers per day condemned oil recycling plant.

    The company recycles condemned engine oil to base oil for use in blending of lubricants and other industrial applications.

    Speaking to journalists during a two day Media Tour organized by the Nigerian Content Development And Monitoring Board in Portharcourt, Managing Director of Bunorr, Mr Okeke Ikechukwu said, the past six months mark a period of revival, stabilization and significant progress.

    “Our production rates growth and recovery includes increased production rates, especially from October to November 2025 where we recorded our highest revenue and gross profit since operations began. Production efficiency improved by more than 50 per cent compared to earlier months” he said.

    Speaking further he said, “Although the early months recorded deficits due to technical disruptions, the company has recovered strongly. November 2025 delivered a positive surplus, reaffirming the viability and profitability of the plant under stable operating conditions.

    “We proudly acknowledge that our progress in the past six months is deeply connected to the support, oversight, and strategic partnership of the Nigerian Content Development And Monitoring Board (NCDMB) backing that gave us credibility before vendors, financial institutions, and key stakeholders.

    “This made it easier to attract technical partners and negotiable for materials and support. One of the most tangible effects of NCDMB’s involvement is the growth of local Nigerian manpower with our operations.

    “Today, Bunorr Integrated Energy Services Limited proudly employs 37 Nigerians in total, comprising 16 core staff technical, production, maintenance, operations technical, production, maintenance, operations), and 21 non-core staff (admin, logistics, support).

    “NCDMB’s periodic engagements helped us improve our operational standards, enhance safety culture, and adopt best practices in the recycling and lubricant recovery industry.NCDMB’s push for automation, safety, and modern process control accelerated our adoption of new technologies such as SCADA and digital monitoring.

    “The presence of NCDMB media teams and national news agencies today demonstrates the Board’s commitment to showcasing indigenous success stories.This visibility positions Bunorr as a rising force in Nigeria’s circular energy and industrial recycling sector. Economic, Environmental & Social Impact,”

    Okeke said, the company roadmap for 2026 will be, to leverage on the gains of the past six months and support from stakeholders, “we are preparing to:Move from partial to full commercial production. Expand raw material aggregation networks across Nigeria.Improve Base Oil grade and quality through viscosity and purification upgrades.Introduce more automation and safety systems.Enhance working capital to sustain production volume.Expand plant capacity in phases”.

    In his remark, the Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development And Monitoring Board Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe who was represented by Head Government Relation NCDMB Mr. Teddy Bai said, they will continue to support competency and quality in Nigeria content drive.

    “As part support of indigenous companies, the NCDMB has $3.6 million equity investment and $10 million injected as a concessional loan under the Nigerian Content Intervention Fund”, he said.

    The company has a capacity of 60,000 liters daily but currently produces at the level of 36,000 litres daily due to shortage of condemned engine oil.
