Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, has said that he will contest the Imo State governorship despite warnings from former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Governor Hope Uzodinma that Nigeria’s politics is violent and unethical.
Amadi disclosed this in a Facebook post on Wednesday while reflecting on his political aspirations and the challenges within the country’s electoral system.
He said Uzodinma first cautioned him in 2014 against running for the Imo governorship, noting that politics required actions inconsistent with his principles.
Amadi added that Obi recently discouraged him from contesting for a Senate seat, warning that the election would be marked by violence and unethical conduct.
Quoting Uzodinma, Amadi wrote: “Sam, you know you ought to be Governor of Imo State, but you cannot do the things we do.”
He also quoted Obi as saying: “Sam, do not run. It will be very violent. You are a good man. You cannot do the evil they do. I know how evil they are.”
Unmoved by the warnings, Amadi declared his resolve to contest.
”But I will run for Governor, evil or no evil. The violent shall end by violence,“ he stated.
Amadi’s remarks have sparked fresh conversations about electoral violence and political conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections
