Ibom Air vs Comfort: Prosecute Oshiomhole, KWAM1 now, Nigerians task FG

    Published on

Nigerians have been outraged over the handling of the case of Ms. Comfort Emmanson’s unruly aviation behaviour, stating that ‘what is good for Comfort should also be good for Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Fuji icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as (KWAM1) had also committed offenses that contravened aviation rules.

According to Nigerians, FG’s body language postures as double standard in the handling of the high-profile aviation disruptions.

Comfort Emmanson, had on August 10, assaulted a female crew member on an Akwa Ibom State-owned air plane, Ibom Air, for asking her to switch off her phone as the Lagos bound aircraft was about taxiing off.

Similarly, on August 5, fuji musician Ayinde Marshal blocked an aircraft from flying and poured a liquid substance on the pilot and other crew members.

In June, a sitting Senator, Adams Oshiomole blocked the airport gate disrupting bookings and checking in.

In all these cases, Oshiomhole and Marshal were not remanded and not prosecuted. But Comfort was quickly charged and remanded in Kirikiri prison for an offence that was not particularly different from others.

While Senator Adams Oshiomhole remains free, Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on an Ibom Air flight, was swiftly arraigned and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility for assaulting crew members.

Nigerians are accusing authorities of selective justice, with political affiliations and influence at the center of the debate.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA), Mr. Mike Achimugu, has clarified that the incident involving Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who allegedly assaulted Ibom Air crew members, is different from the case of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1.

He explained that the regulatory body did not direct the airline to prosecute or ban Emmanson, noting that Ibom Air acted independently based on available evidence.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Peter Esele, a former President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria, Mr. Peter Esele, expressed his disappointment over Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde also known as K1 De Ultimate’s alleged refusal to comply with airport regulations.

Esele noted that K1’s actions are unbecoming of a respected musician and celebrity, adding that the consequences of lawlessness go beyond insults.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has condemned the manner Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) handled the August 10, 2025, incident involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson.

The NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, and General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, had in a statement, released Tuesday, described the airline’s actions including the lifetime flight ban imposed on Ms. Emmanson as “reckless,” “unlawful,” and a violation of her right to dignity.

The Association insisted that Ms. Emmanson was “forcibly removed from the aircraft, publicly stripped of her clothing, and humiliated” in an incident that was recorded and widely shared online.

The association labelled the treatment “degrading” and a breach of her privacy and dignity, noting that it fell short of the standards expected in the aviation industry.

Meanwhile, apparently reacting to Nigerians’ clamour for equal treatment for unruly behavior, the Federal Government has placed Fuji icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, a.k.a. KWAM 1, on an indefinite ban after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) upgraded his six-month flight ban to a full no-fly order pending investigation.

The bombshell was dropped Tuesday night by NCAA spokesman, Michael Achimugu on Channels Television, who accused the singer of conduct tantamount to “a terrorist act” during his airport bust-up.

The August 5, 2025, incident at the Abuja Airport saw KWAM 1 attempt to board a ValueJet flight with a flask containing an unidentified liquid. When security insisted on inspecting it, he allegedly splashed the contents on an officer before blocking the aircraft from taxiing.

A furious Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo waded in, branding it a “hostage situation” and ordering an immediate no-fly listing, domestically and internationally, warning airlines that defy the ban could lose their licenses.

The NCAA swiftly imposed a six-month suspension, followed by letters to the Attorney-General and Inspector-General of Police urging criminal prosecution for obstructing aviation operations.

Now, Achimugu says that punishment has been stretched to an indefinite ban while investigators dig in, stressing that the matter is far from over.

KWAM 1 has since apologised, claiming the flask contained only water for medical reasons. But regulators remain unmoved, as legal trouble and possible court action loom over the Fuji legend.

However, X users have been vocal in drawing parallels between the cases. @Dlex_c lamented, “This is what happens when you don’t tackle issues head on. What K1 did has given so many people morale. Very soon we’ll see someone fighting pilots in the cockpit.”

@ScarTissue101 questioned the legal framework, stating, “And the law doesn’t say many things about what K1 did? Which carries more weight, the constitution/law or NYSC handbook? The problem is that you guys follow like sheep and fail to think for yourselves, but then, that’s what you’ve been trained to be.”

This post linked to another unavailable discussion, underscoring frustration with perceived inconsistencies.

@baba_jogunomi replied to a thread, asserting, “You need to study more please, what K1 did is tantamount to terrorism.”

Similarly, @femiTRP remarked, “What K1 did was nothing but terrorism but to err is human. Meanwhile for Comfort, to err is jail.”

These comments frame KWAM 1’s actions as severe, potentially endangering lives by disrupting flight operations.

Political undertones emerged in the discourse. @eluckki claimed, “Anyone who believes this doesn’t know the APC very well. This is all planned by them to downplay what K1 did,” suggesting that KWAM 1’s affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC) might influence the lenient treatment.

@ghettosun_naija urged balanced judgment: “Sometimes some of you need to step back from your blind support for your favourites & judge issues with a balanced view. How can you trivialize what K1 did just because you want to justify the injustice against that young lady? I know K1 shares the same party as you, hence the sentiment.”

@mamatii001 defended the disparity, arguing, “How is it the same offence? Someone stood in front of a flight at the risk of his life. Another slapped the air hostess and even wanted to smash her head with an extinguisher at the risk of entire passengers. Learn how to be a balanced boy.”

However, @i_am_olawunmi attributed broader issues to KWAM 1, stating, “Y’all can see what K1 DE ULTIMATE had caused SMH.”

The incidents have prompted calls for equitable enforcement of aviation laws. Aviation experts emphasize that disruptions, whether through physical assault or operational interference, pose serious risks.

“Blocking a flight or assaulting crew both endanger passengers and must be treated with equal severity,” said Dr. Aisha Bello, an aviation safety consultant.
