Gusau urges coaches to apply knowledge as NFF concludes CAF B-License Course

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has charged participants of the CAF B-License coaching course to diligently apply the knowledge gained throughout the intensive seven-month, four-module programme.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the course, Gusau, who also serves as President of the WAFU-B Zone, commended the coaches for their dedication and commitment. The modules were held between April and November, with sessions running from April 7–12, October 6–10, October 20–24, and November 3–7.

“I take pride in our achievements thus far, and although we have a year left in our tenure, I remain confident that, by the grace of God, we will achieve our goals,” Gusau said. “Since assuming office, we have successfully facilitated the CAF B, CAF C, and CAF D License programmes. Notably, the CAF C course was designed exclusively for women, a milestone reflecting Nigeria’s leadership in women’s football across Africa.”

Gusau underscored the importance of involving former international players in the federation’s technical development drive, noting that their experience is invaluable to the growth of local coaching standards. “We recognize the wealth of experience among our ex-internationals, and it is essential to harness their expertise through these programs,” he said. “By organizing coaching instructor courses at the zonal level, we are building a sustainable model that allows coaches to train within their regions without the need to travel to Abuja.”

The NFF President also lauded the feedback received from CAF Education Officer, Mr. Honour Janza, who commended the professionalism and enthusiasm displayed by the coaches during the training. Gusau announced that plans are underway to launch a CAF A-License coaching course within the first quarter of 2026.

“We are working closely with the Technical Department, coaches, and instructors to roll out the CAF A-License course early next year,” he assured.

Encouraging participants to make the most of their newly acquired knowledge, Gusau urged them to pursue coaching opportunities beyond Nigeria. “We want our coaches not just to earn certificates but to make their mark internationally,” he said. “Just as we had a Tanzanian coach participate in this course, we hope to see Nigerian coaches leading clubs and teams across Africa.”

The event was attended by top NFF officials, including First Vice President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agu; General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (MON); Deputy General Secretary Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme; NPFL Chief Operating Officer Mr. Davidson Owumi; Technical Director Mr. Austin Eguavoen; NNL Chairman Chief George Aluo; CAF Education Officer Mr. Honour Janza; NFF Head of Education Dr. Terry Eguaoje; Coaching Instructors Ambassador Henry Abiodun and Mr. Abdulrafiu Yusuf; NFF Director of Media and Communications Dr. Ademola Olajire; and NFF Internal Auditor Mr. Godson Iyere.
