Gunmen Kill Imo Lawyer, Police Launch Investigation

    Published on

Tragedy struck in Imo State on Wednesday as gunmen murdered a lawyer, Chinedu Nwowu, in Mgbidi, located in the Oru West Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 7 p.m. along the Mgbidi highway. A source recounted how the assailants overtook Nwowu’s vehicle before forcing him to stop.

“We just saw a car overtake the man’s car dangerously. The armed men jumped out, dragged him out of his car, and shot him multiple times,” the witness said. “The attack happened so quickly that people couldn’t even alert security operatives.”

Bystanders later rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

    *Police Respond*
Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Thursday and assured the public that an investigation was underway.

“The police are pained by this incident. But I can assure you that we will apprehend the hoodlums behind this dastardly act. We have already commenced an investigation and will stop at nothing to catch the gang,” Okoye stated.

Efforts to reach the Owerri branch chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chris Ihentuge, for comments proved unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for enhanced security measures to curb the growing wave of violent crimes in the state
