Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Aguata Anglican Diocese during a Thanksgiving Service held at St. John’s Cathedral in Ekwulobia.

The event brought together clergy, parishioners, and community leaders to commemorate two decades of the Diocese’s impactful contributions to the region.

In his address, Governor Soludo stressed the pressing challenges facing Christianity today, urging the church to reflect on why many individuals are leaving for alternative practices that contradict its teachings, calling for a renewed commitment among church leaders and members to engage actively with their communities and maintain the relevance of their faith.

Furthermore, the Governor restated the declaration of an end to outdated educational practices, including imposition of graduation for nursery pupils, emphasizing the need for more accessible learning resources in schools.

During the service, Anglican Bishop of Aguata, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, delivered a sermon encouraging Christians to “press on, forward, and towards the Goal.”

He pointed out concerns about complacency among believers, urging them to continue to embody Christ’s love, hope, and truth. Bishop Ezeofor reinforced the notion that shining this light can dispel darkness in the world.

At the conclusion of the event which was attended by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, Engr. Dom Okafor, among others, Governor Soludo was presented with an award of commendation from the Diocese in recognition of his support and contributions to the church in Anambra State.
