Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has officially launched the Abuja-Jos route flight operated by Value-Jet Airline, aiming to boost economic activities within the state.
The governor highlighted that this accomplishment underscores his dedication to enhancing transportation to and from Plateau State, with the aim of attracting international investors to the region.
In a statement issued by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs, and shared with the press in Jos, the governor stated during the inauguration at Yakubu Gowon Airport that the government is committed to revitalizing the railway system and improving road transportation to enhance citizens’ quality of life.
“We are delighted to announce the revival of the Jos-Abuja route, which had been neglected due to changes in the aviation sector. Today, we celebrate its re-establishment and extend our gratitude to all those who have made this possible,” Governor Mutfwang affirmed.
He also emphasized the presence of significant national institutions in Plateau State, including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and the National Veterinary Research Institute, which attract prominent individuals contributing to national matters.
The governor revealed that the flight will operate three times a week between Abuja and Jos, expressing optimism that operations will run smoothly.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Transport Davou Jatau Gyang expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for revitalizing the flight service. Gyang noted that this initiative would enhance business connectivity between Jos and Abuja.
“This seamless connection provided by one of the country’s top airlines will undoubtedly bolster trade and tourism between our cities. Strengthening ties on various fronts aligns with our primary goal of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ValueJet Airline,” Gyang emphasized.
He also called on the federal government to elevate Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos to international status, citing the favorable climate for agricultural activities and the potential to stimulate economic growth in the state.
